Slumsville Goals and Action Steps

Community Development Goal 1:
Revamp water management policies and treatment systems.
Proposed action steps to achieve this goal:
1. Within 2 years implementing a water quality control policy with guidelines on acceptable concentration levels of different elements.
2. Within 2 years build recycling centers and standardize landfills to incorporate leachate prevention techniques. Decreasing amounts of leachate should reduce the pollution amount going into the river annually.
3. Develop a water treatment plant to begin the purification process of the river and provide incentives to properly dispose of trash or recycling. Incentivizing citizens to sort waste will increase the productivity of recycling and landfill systems.
4. Within 4 years redevelop slums to help prevent further pollution of the river by building affordable housing in the city outskirts.  Relocating the population living in the Ohithere river slums should reduce the addition of pollution into the river.
Community Development Goal 2:
Revamp the school system to foster future leaders in the community and economic growth.
Proposed action steps to achieve this goal:
1. Create two new schools in Slumsville’s school district with existing funds to support the recent influx of people and help alleviate the overcrowding of the school system.
2. In the next year, talk to local businesses to attempt to get them to donate goods for a large silent auction to help pay for new books and outdated materials in the schools.
3. Create an internship program after creating the new schools for young leaders looking to stay in Slumsville to promote local growth and a larger sense of community in the area.  This hopefully will foster more support of the school district.
4. Include comprehensive English, Spanish, or French classes in the curriculum to try to appease the Quadruple C Schooling group and create a more cohesive community.
Community Development Goal 3:
Utilize the cultural aspects of our community to increase tourism and create revenue-increasing events.
Proposed action steps to achieve this goal:
1. Host festivals starting two-to-four times a year to supporting local ethnic businesses and cultures.
2. Invest more into local businesses that support diversity and bringing new residents together. This can be done by having local businesses sponsor these festivals. The proceeds can go to improving their communities, schools, and other important aspects.
3. Within three years, increase the tourism that comes in the area. This will be invested into the communities that the festivals support for better housing and schools. This will be done by connecting with other companies such as the research companies in community B to partner with our community for these festivals. The research companies could use the communities that are being supported to gain more statistics to analyze.
