Eastlake Goals and Action Steps

Community Development Goal 1: Redevelop the Local Economy
1. The community of Eastlake will create a business network group which will promote exposure of other local businesses and promote local shopping.
2. The community of Eastlake will create a local business loyalty program. This program will provide customers with special offers and discounts for buying from local merchants.
3. Eastlake will hold a monthly market downtown in which people can come and enjoy local art, goods, and food. This will promote independently owned businesses, while fostering our growing creative community.
Community Development Goal 2: Restore The Community’s Trust in Their Elected Officials
1. Eastlake will hold monthly meetings for community members to come voice their concerns and possible solutions to issues they face within the community. These meetings will help with the issue of individuals feeling that they have limited opportunity to get involved and feel heard.
2. Eastlake will create a local council that will be acquainted with the members and actions of the elected officials. Members of this local council will also produce weekly articles intended to inform the public of recent proceedings and provide accountability for elected officials’ actions.
3. Eastlake will restore voting rights to formerly incarcerated individuals. Because our city has such high crime rates, this will reintroduce a large percentage of voters and allow these members of the community to be involved in the voting process once again.
Community Development Goal 3: Promote Sustainability
1. Eastlake will create an organization for environmentally conscious community members to gather, fundraise, and advocate for environmental issues within their community. This organization will also develop an “eco-friendly” licensure process for local business
and organizations to promote their sustainable practices.
2. Eastlake will use our declining infrastructure as an opportunity to redevelop and repurpose run-down buildings into community gardens, creative arts spaces, and community centers. This is a practical and sustainable opportunity to encourage social interaction within the community, produce food locally, and provide community resources.
3. Eastlake will cultivate environmental awareness in schools by teaching kids topics such as: what they can and can’t recycle, how to conserve energy within their homes, and the importance of environmental justice in their community.
