Ugly Tuna Island Goal and Action Steps

Community Development Goal 1: Increase access to education and health care services to enhance the community’s quality of life.
A. Create a path to other islands in order to get specialized workers in the education and health care sectors
B. Create conversations between Ugly Tuna Island and other similar islands to develop a stronger curriculum requirement in local schools, comparable to other surrounding communities
C. Long term: Seek to build an Ugly Tuna Island branch marine research campus for Community B’s University to increase access to higher education.
Community Development Goal 2: Improve sustainability of local aquatic ecosystems by mitigating the effect of pollution from surrounding communities on native fish species.
A. Create an education program to teach sustainable fishing methods to visitors and surrounding communities
B. Develop a fishing focus group comprised of local citizens and leaders to contact surrounding communities and make deals regarding pollution limits.
C. Long term: Extend the pollution research being done in Community B to an aspired branch marine research campus to find possible mitigation strategies.
Community Development Goal 3: Increase amount of tourism and recreation opportunities on the island by providing access to reliable transportation and infrastructure.
A. Begin construction for an improved ferry station providing reliable connections to Communities B and C.
B. Fundraiser for repairs and begin construction on roads, buildings and other infrastructure
C. Improve telecommunications to other islands by installing more phone lines and increasing accessibility to internet services
