Skunk Rat Goals and Action Steps

Community Development Goal 1:
Proper management and harvesting of local natural resources such as mineral deposits and old growth forests.
Proposed action steps to achieve this goal:
1. Create legislation that requires sustainable forest management that also implements best management practices for soil and water conservation.
2. Open sections of the mines/ cultural parks as a tourist destination.
3. Incentivize local sawmills to stop processing illegal logging around the national park.
Community Development Goal 2:
Create jobs in the community.
Proposed action steps to achieve this goal:
1. Propose a deal with Community D. They may use our community’s ore if they harvest it responsibly by members of Community G. Community D pays a tax.
2. Provide subsidies to the 5 companies/businesses that allow/accommodate those not yet fluent in English to work and be included in the organizations.
3. Create a space for local and non-local Artisans and other vendors to sell and showcase cultural works. Since the culture is nationally recognized it should encourage and increase tourism.
Community Development Goal 3:
Provide a better education system that provides free language classes for adults who are are learning English as second language.
Proposed action steps to achieve this goal:
1. Offer incentives to those willing to contribute skills towards teaching ESL courses
2. Create a skill-based education center, integrated into the school system, focused on forestry, IT, welding, and other courses that  provide transferable skills that can be useful for jobs. These opportunities would be open to the public.

3. Implement a tutoring program for the students to become future teachers of these skills.
Students can be offered part-time positions and/or scholarships could be given as an
incentive.
