Business Model

Value Proposition

Through our research, we found that educating the public on necessary recycling methods was most important. Potential users expressed frustration with current recycling methods, stating problems such as inaccessibility and lack of awareness as major problems. We plan on developing a system that incentivizes taking part in recycling correctly, along with the improved bins to facilitate this. We have set out to develop a  recycling bin that makes sorting by material straightforward and quick in order to minimize mix ups and excessive contamination.

Users

Initially, we will be targeting OSU students as our primary end users. The potential solution may naturally be expanded to the rest of the campus population to encompass faculty, staff, and visitors. Once the system has improved recyclability on the OSU main campus, it can easily be expanded and implemented in busy areas of Columbus and countless cities beyond.

Users Needs:

  • simple and quick
  • close proximity to users
  • smart-phone friendly
  • low cost

A breakdown of our initial end-users is as follows:

  • Undergraduates: 46,820
  • Graduates: 11,097
  • Faculty and Staff: 34,468
