Our Mission and Business Model

Our Mission

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch between Hawaii and California is destroying ecosystems, killing animals, and dissolving micro-plastics into our drinking water. We are setting out to clean up the Pacific Ocean and potentially other bodies of water by offering an autonomous vehicle that will effectively and efficiently remove plastic pollution from the water.

Our Value Proposition

Our primary and secondary research indicates that there is a great demand for cleanup of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Our peers are concerned about the health of the ocean and our environment. There is enough research to conclude that we require a solution to the problem of having this huge island of garbage in the middle of the ocean that is bigger than the size of Hawaii. There is enough evidence to show that people want to take action, but they don’t knowhow.

We will begin our campaign by appealing to leisurely users of the ocean. This market segment includes tourists, fishermen, and other recreational ocean-goers. We will start to implement our solution on a local scale, targeting a small community about the size of Malibu, California (about 10,000 people). This test market, if successful, can prove that we can scale up the operation and grow the technology to clean up more bodies of water.

Target Users

Our team has narrowed our target user to the following three categories: 1) fishermen, 2) tourists, and 3) big companies. We chose for our project to have mass appeal towards the tourists because they are the most populous user base of the ocean and its resources and therefore may potentially have the greatest impact towards positive change in cleaning up the ocean.
