Individual Concept Designs:
Joey
Features:
- 2″x6″ rectangle as the base plate distributes the weight of the AEV evenly
- Motors mounted on extended wings to keep the AEV from swinging side to side
- L-shaped arm keeps momentum going forward
- Pros
- The design cost is low because it only uses parts given to us and no printed parts. It also is a aerodynamic design with the wings attached.
- Cons
- The design is heavy compared to the other designs.
Alex
Features:
- T-shaped base creates availability for two wings to make a triangle back and therefore more air- and energy- efficient.
- Trapezoidal fin on bottom perfectly vertical makes for easier slicing through air.
- Front slope creates for air to go over the slop, therefore also making it more air- and energy- efficient.
- Simplistic features create less weight overall, causing less strain on the track and therefore using less energy.
- Pros
- The design is very aerodynamic with the pointed nose in the front and the wing underneath because it is designed like an airplane.
- Cons
- It’s more costly than other deigns and all the extra wings make the AEV heavier.
Harsh
Features:
- Curved features done through 3-D printing.
- These curves will create aero-dynamic efficiency when moving.
- The sleek design allows for drag minimization and batterly/board placement balance out the weight of the motors and wheels.
- Pros
- The design is light weight and the most aerodynamic.
- Cons
- The design is more costly because it has a 3D printed part in the design.
Jackie
Features:
- Cross shape base creates a base that can even out the weight distributed from the components individually.
- Sloped front end creates a wind resistant “beak” that will save energy.
- Motors under cross base’s wings maximizes the power being used.
- Pros
- The design is stable
- Cons
- The design is heavy.
- It’s also not very aerodynamic becasue the front edge is flat.
Final Team Design:
Features:
- T-shaped base creates availability for two wings to make a triangle back and therefore more air- and energy- efficient.
- Front slope designed to be aerodynamically ideal, therefore also making it more air- and energy- efficient.
- Simplistic features create less weight overall, causing less strain on the track and therefore using less energy.
- Pros
- Combines most pros of all designs, such as: most aerodynamic because of tip, lightweight material, and large enough base to hold required parts.
- Cons
- Will need 3D Printing, so it will cost the company slightly more money.
Will be moving on after Lab 5 using the following two designs for testing:
- Final Team Design
- Alex’s Design
