Group N Homepage

Innovation and improving technology has been at the forefront of humanity since the dawn of man. Time and time again brilliant minds have discovered and invented ways to solve major problems, to minor everyday problems. A problem humans have faced for ages is transportation. To this day, there are still areas where sufficient forms of transportation are unavailable. We here at division N of Baker International have developed a solution to this issue.

Our mode of transportation offers to its users

  • A safe, consistent, and stable form of transportation
  • Affordable and simple design
  • Low energy cost
  • Smooth and enjoyable ride

We here at Division N of Baker International are happy to present to you the Advanced Energy Vehicle.

Consistency

For many, public transportation is part of their daily lives. Getting to work in busy cities can be especially difficult due to the large amounts of traffic. People use public transportation as a safe and reliable way to beat the crowds and get to where they need to be quicker. Because of this, a public transportation system needs to be safe as well as reliable. If the transportation is not reliable then your city will spend more time and money fixing the transportation than having it operational for your citizens. This is where our AEV can help you out. Unlike other companies, our vehicle runs for a specific amount of time and cost. In our final performance test our vehicles time was only 55 seconds for both runs. In addition to the same time, the vehicle used 208 and 210 Joules. This is just a  .1% difference. As you can see in the graph of the final performance run below, both graphs are nearly identical to each other for the entire duration of the run.

Simplicity

Public Transportation takes up a large part of many cities budget. This is from expensive upfront costs as well as costly repairs once the vehicles break down. However, using our AEV this will not be the case for you. Our AEV uses a simplistic, minimalist design to make the cost of our AEV cheap. Many other companies’ AEV cost them around $160,000 to produce. From our simple design our division is able to take out many of the unnecessary parts our competitors use to cut our production cost down to $153,000 – a 4.5% decrease. Another benefit to our simplistic design is the less intensive maintenance needed to be done. No vehicle is completely unbreakable and our AEV is no exception. However, our vehicle has less parts than many of our competitors. With less parts our AEV can easily be fixed and there are less parts to worry about breaking.

Low Run Cost

A low initial cost vehicle would lose its value if each run the vehicle made were very expensive. That is why division N also spent significant time reducing the overall power our AEV requires to successfully complete a run. During our testing a spreadsheet was shown of every division’s final performance runs. Their energy costs were anywhere from $112,500 to $150,000. So not only does our vehicle save you 4.5% percent upfront for the cost of the vehicle, but our vehicle continues to save you money each run by costing only $104,500 per run. This is an extra %7 percent saved each and every run the vehicle performs. Over the course of a year, this additional savings adds up to millions of dollars saved compared to our competitors.

Smooth Ride

Passengers on our vehicle will have a comfortable ride for their entire duration. Our vehicle does not come to a sudden stop like our competitors. Instead, we use power braking gradually to not disturb our passengers. When approaching the caboose, our vehicle almost comes to a complete standstill before connecting to the caboose. This is to ensure there is no crash between the caboose carrying the passengers and our vehicle. In addition our vehicle never uses more than 40% of the potential motor speed. This is to ensure a quieter ride for our passengers. Our competitors chose to shorten the length of the ride. However, their vehicle makes lots of noise that would disturb your passengers.

Advanced Energy Vehicle Project Mission Concept Review:

As the city of Columbus looks to progress into the future, many new projects are being initiated to make Columbus a leading example of smart cities. One current problem Columbus is facing is the presence of urban deserts around the city, more specifically, Linden County. Because of an intersecting roadway (I-71), the county lacks many services and businesses. To give the citizens of Linden access to such services and improve mobility, Smart City Columbus has decided to commission an autonomous, electric, monorail-suspended vehicle connecting Linden to popular social centers Easton and Polaris.

Project Priorities:

  • Create a safe and efficient vehicle that complies with the Performance Constraints (Outlined in M.C.R.)
  • Total Costs stay under total budget of $500K, which includes capital, energy, and time costs.
  • Try not to have any safety violations, as they carry a monetary penalty off of the total budget.
