Meeting 9 -March 7, 2019

3/7/19 – Hitchcock 224 – 1 hour 20 minutes

Attendance:

  • James Bott
  • Joe Georges
  • Michael Nedved
  • Nick McLaughlin

Objective: Complete aR&D 2 prototype testing

Completed tasks:

  • Assemble AEV with new 3D printed parts, the aev also had to be mildly redesigned so that it sits level on the track – whole group
  • Write code to test the braking speed of the AEV in two scenarios, one coasting and one where the AEV drive wheel temporarily reverses to stop – Joe
  • Test the AEV on the track using the written code, each code will be used twice, one while the AEV is towing the caboose and once with just the AEV itself – whole group
  • Collect data on the code that was written and use it to evaluate how long it takes the AEV to stop using the two methods – whole group
  • Meeting notes updated – Nick

Tasks to be Completed:

  • Put deliverables on website – Michael and James
  • Progress Report 2 – whole group
  • Remodel drive wheel – Nick
  • Website Update 3 – whole group
  • Prepare for performance test 1 – whole group

Decisions:

  • We will use a combination of stopping techniques during our performance test 1 run
  • After performance test 1 we will redesign the drive wheel so that the AEV is more stable, this will be done by creating a larger well for the track to lay in, this will also increase friction and the effects will have to be tested for.
  • Our AEV can reach ridiculous speeds and should be kept on a speed of 25 or lower for the best results and safety.
  • The reflectance sensor is backwards and using our orientation we need to set a negative relative or absolute position to go forward.
