The reflective sensors are important to the AEV because they measure how far it travels along the rail. The sensors record 8 clicks for every time the wheel completes a full revolution. One full revolution is 3.9 inches, therefore, each mark is .4875 inches along the track. With this information, the data collected from the AEV can be properly converted into more understandable, commonly known lengths. With information gathered from the reflective sensors many more valuable data points can be interpreted.
