Advanced R&D

All of the graphs shown below were accumulated during track comparisons, our second advanced research and development topic. For this topic the group used the same code to do 8 different tests on 4 unique tracks. Each track was tested twice.

Distance From Gate (inches)
Track 1 Track 2 Track 3 Track 4
mean 29 38.5 20.5 41.5
median 29 38.5 20.5 41.5
range 22 11 1 11
Standard Deviation 11 5.5 0.5 5.5

Using the statistics recorded there were some conclusions that could be drawn from the Track Comparison Tests. One test that was performed was to see how far the AEV would stop from the gate. The distance that the AEV stopped from the gate was very similar for both tests on track 3. It stopped an average of 20.5 inches from the gate and it the data set only had a range of 1 inch so the two trials were very close together. Track one had the least consistent data. The AEV stopped and average of 29 inches from the gate but had a range of 22 between data points. This data is not as accurate as it could be because there was not enough time to do more than two trials on each track so the data might not be accurate as it could be. The four tracks each had very different results for distance from the gate. With tracks 3 and 1 being relatively similar results. Tracks 2 and 4 had very similar results to each other. So it can be concluded that all the tracks could have different results. With track 1 being more similar to track 3 and track 2 being more similar to track 4.

Battery Testing Research

No considerable change in efficiency of battery was observed after completing advanced research and development.  To acquire this data four trials were conducted using the same battery and code.  The variable that changed was the voltage of the battery.  These assumptions only apply to lithium batteries that are substantially charged.  Battery efficiency at low voltage is still unknown because each trial that we conducted only slightly depleted the voltage of the battery.  Battery performance at low voltage may be beneficial but is irrelevant for the purposes of this project.
