Lab 01- Arduino Programming Basics

The first lab gave the team an opportunity to become familiarized with the coding software (arduino) that we will have to use in order to get the AEV to do what we need. The team was given a scenario of operations to instruct the AEV motors to complete with pre-programmed commands. The team completed this and then sent the coded instructions to the arduino board. The arduino board however had some issues. The output wires that go to the motors and the battery had become loose and fell out. The team quickly overcame this roadblock and operated on the board, so that the arduino could operate properly. The team mounted the motors and then connected them to the arduino board. The board was then turned on and the start button was pressed. The code operated as it should’ve. The team then carefully took everything apart and made sure not to hurt the arduino wires since that appeared to potentially be a problem that could arise easily.

The team had these takeaways:

  1. Programming is not too difficult since we have been trained in coding and we have been presented with pre-programmed commands
  2. You must be very careful with the materials since they are very fragile and they must last over a semester
  3. The group works very well together and is very focus on success
  4. We all have good ideas for how to construct the arduino, we just need to find the right ones.
