Mission Statement

The goal of the Lab-on-a-Chip project was to create two LOC designs that could detect and measure the concentration of a fluorescein sample. Fluorescein emits fluorescence when stimulated which can be measured by a detection alignment device. Because fluorescein is non-toxic, it can be used to track flow rates in the body. The basis of this Lab-on-a-Chip project was to detect dry eye syndrome. After putting fluorescein in the eye, tears coming into the eye will reduce the fluorescein concentration over time. The rate of concentration change can be used to determine tear flow rate. The purpose of the chip is to be able to reliably measure the concentration of multiple samples of fluorescein taken in intervals.
