Performance Test 1

The conclusions from the data collected in the wind tunnel and track variance tests were used to modify the designs and code for Performance Test 1. The designs tested are shown below.

Both designs were run on the same track, however different codes were used for each design because they were drastically different weights which affected the coasting length. The graph of the runs for each design can be seen below in the figure and table. The trial that was used to represent each AEV was their most efficient run, the one that used the least amount of energy.

As seen in the table above, Design 2’s average power and standard deviation of power was lower than design 1. This means that not only does it increase efficiency, the low standard deviation means that Design 2 is more consistent and reliable, with each run very similar to the last. When tested with the same code, the Design 2 traveled a lot farther than Design 1, and hit the gate. The group expected this outcome, however it was surprising how drastic the difference was. The new placement of the battery made it more balanced, combined with the lighter weight made the design 2 use much less power in than the design 1.
