Lab Exercise 5: Concept Screening and Scoring

Objectives:

  1. Verify the AEV wheel count sensor system is accurate and working.
  2. From your AEV data, calculate the propeller force and friction force.

Questions:

  1.  Provide a completed copy of the  Concept  Screening and Scoring spreadsheets (with descriptions of the criteria choices and what the spreadsheets are representing).

  1.  Discuss the pros and cons of each design as compared to the Reference  AEV using the Concept Screening and Scoring spreadsheets to help with justification.

Use these matrices to define which two AEV concepts will be carried forward in the design cycle.

A final sketch was created so that it reflected all the individual sketches and their strengths. Takeaways for the AEV were that the design needs to have more balance in terms of weight distribution. Also, the final design had the wings and the motor on the side of the AEV, which proved to be a good location.

Pros: wings and motor on side of AEV, battery on the bottom of the AEV, platform that holds the wheels are placed in the middle of the base to provide balance and enough space for the Arduino to stay on the top

Cons: not properly balanced

  1.  Make it clear which two AEV concepts will be carried forward in the design cycle.
