Business Model

Product Value: Food deserts are places where, in general, people make less healthy eating choices because healthy options are unavailable to them. Many of these people live in low-income neighborhoods that lack a grocery store within a decent walking distance. Our team intends to make a remodeled bus that will bring the grocery store to them in an affordable and accessible fashion.  People will no longer bear the stress of figuring out how to get to faraway stores within their tight schedules and will receive fresh, healthy options right in their neighborhood.

Users: We plan to first target a single area, so that we may, hopefully, expand to other food deserts. Our target area is the Columbus neighborhood, Franklinton. The customers in this area often lack personal transportation, and the area is labeled a “food desert” with little to no grocery stores in the vicinity. Below is an example of a user from the Franklinton area:

Design: The inside of the remodeled bus would be much like a small grocery store. Due to limited space, we won’t have as much variety in food as regular, fixed stores, but we expect it will drive us to seriously consider the food that most closely suits our users’ needs. The bus will run on a fixed schedule, making it easier for people to plan their time at the bus, and it’ll travel on a specific route that we determine is most efficient and beneficial.
