Creating a source for affordable and healthy food on campus, with varied meal options and diversity, would help students on campus maintain healthy eating habits. Healthy ready made meals and snacks could be offered for those who have time limitations. Such a source could also offer cooking education to foster home cooking. This would aid current and future students, and the developed behaviors would have long lasting benefits.
The value identified is addressed towards a specific Customer Segment, college students at OSU who live on or near Campus, who wish to eat healthier and develop healthier eating habits. The current population of the targeted Customer Segment is an estimated 17,000, though if successful, the suggested solution could be implemented to other campuses across the country.
Market Size
The market size expected is difficult to define. Of the total OSU population, potentially, any and all students and faculty would fall in our target market. But not everyone in the group eats on Campus, is interested in eating healthily, or spends a significant enough amount of time on campus to consider college as a location to rely on for food. Without further data and research the market size is the 100,912 total population on Campus.
However, we feel that those with the most to gain are those who live near campus and have the most incentive to change their eating habits to something more healthy and still on budget. These 17,000 students are our focused market size.
