Food waste caused by transportation is a serious issue worldwide. In the United States, food waste due to distribution and retail added up to 21.69 million metric tons in 2009 and accounted for 39 percent of total food waste, which caused 73.5 billion dollars lost [1]. Food transportation inside a warehouse and between warehouses are critical factors that lead to wasted food [2].
Reducing food waste due to transportation using the team’s solution can create enormous economic impact. Specifically, producers and retailers can reduce loss caused by improper food transportation. Our system is created to monitor each step of the way from warehouse to delivery destination. It efficiently makes each process a smooth flowing system.
