A random route from highway 315 south to the Union parking garage was chosen as our sample traffic route. The straight track was chosen as a good representation of this actual traffic route, seeing as there are no curves in the route and very little elevation changes. The 28-foot track is being split into different sections as to represent the different roads that will be traveled on. Data will be collected from the track representation in order to equate results to a real-world traffic route.
Requirement | Range | Ideal |
Efficiency (energy) | < 30% per run | < 50% per run |
Low Cost | 2000 dollars | 1500 dollars |
Stability | 100% | 100% |
Servo Brakes | Stops < 1 foot | Stops < 6 inches |
electricity consumption | 0.2kw/h | 0.25kw/h |
Travel time | <20 seconds | <15 seconds |
Load | 1-2 cabooses | 1 caboose |
Straight track | 40% Power and within 5-deg tilt | 45% Power and within 5-deg tilt |
Straight track with load | 45% Power and within 5-deg tilt | 55% Power and within 5-deg tilt |
Stability and Brakes requirements of our prototype deal very closely with the safety need of our users. The Efficiency, electricity consumption, and low-cost deal directly with the user needs of being cheap to the user. Travel time requirement will be a representation of the user need of arriving on time. The load requirement will give a representation of not only cars, but trucks and larger vehicles as well. Finally, the straight tracks deal with the user needs requirement of easy routes, and again deals with some energy consumption.
