Reflectance Sensors

  • Below is an image of the reflectance sensors attached to the arm of the AEV with an explanation for their purpose.

  • The reflectance sensors allow the Arduino to track distance traveled critical to completing the MCR. Reflectance sensors work with the help of a single infrared LED and a small photoresistor. For this project specifically, the reflectance sensors record “marks” every time a non-reflective surface passes over a sensor. On the AEV assembly there is reflective tape located on one of the wheels, allowing the sensors to record each mark that the sensor perceives as a distance of 0.4875 inches because of the known wheel diameter
