Lab 2: External Sensors and System Analysis

In this lab, a sample AEV was constructed in order to test various components that will aid in functionality in later labs.  The external sensors were installed on the sample AEV and then tested with a sample arduino code that the team wrote.  These sensors will collect data of how far the AEV traveled using a voltage divider to distinguish between darker and lighter areas of the wheel and recording the revolutions.  After this was completed, the team wrote a sample arduino code to test the AEV on the overhead track, using new commands to have it travel a specific distance at a specified speed.

The second half of the lab tested various motor configurations for the AEV using a wind tunnel and propeller system.  This apparatus analyzed propulsion efficiency, collecting data that could be used to calculate propeller advance ratio and power input and output. This data will be utilized in further labs to determine the most energy efficient configuration for the AEV.
