Our Approach to the Smart City Initiative

The main purpose of the project is to create a smart, safe vehicle which can help catapult our city onto the path to becoming a smart, more energy efficient, and safe city.

Our approach to the Smart City Initiative includes creating ideas for a smarter, safer AEV vehicle, as well as finding creative solutions for budgeting our project, all while keeping the main focus on innovation. The main goal for Team F is to develop an AEV that caters to the Smart City Columbus project with a few constraints that have to be taken into account of.

We feel it is of utmost importance to develop a detailed plan with a strong foundation before just jumping into the experimental/testing stages of the operation, as then we will have alternate plans if errors arise.  It is also important to keep innovative designs at the helm of the planning process, as we find it very important to keep ahead of the curve and create a design which will stand the test of time for years to come.

The key to a successful AEV design is to maximize the durability of the vehicle, minimize the weight of the vehicle and improve the overall efficiency of the vehicle. By removing unnecessary vehicle parts, we can greatly reduce the overall weight of the vehicle which can provide several benefits such as reduced energy consumption and the longevity of the vehicle. This will require some degree of research to achieve the goal.

A potential customer for this smart vehicle would be people who frequently use public transportation.

This would be very useful to these people, as they presumably need a way to get around the city, seeing as how they frequent on city-provided transportation to get from place to place.  This could be children too young to drive, people who cannot afford a personal vehicle, or even just an everyday citizen who works a job easily accessible by the busing system.  This method of transportation would be so effective for them, because not only would it cut down on road traffic, but it also would be much better for the environment, proving to be an incredibly energy efficient design from our testing.
