Team Meeting

Date: 10 – Jan – 2019

Time: 5:30 pm (In class / Face – to – Face)

Members Present: Andrew Choe, Andy Bennett, Haoran Jack Yang, Simran Singh

Objectives: Today’s main objective was to create a basis program on Arduino and upload it to the motors and see if it worked.

To do/Action Items:

  • Arduino
  • Motors
  • Propellers
  • Battery’s

Decisions:

  • The group chose to split into to two and both side of the table created the same code and tested them both out.

Reflection:

The one group’s code was able to download proper and worked fine. The other group’s code had an error in it that they could not figure out although the code looked to be just fine. They were not able to test their code.

Date:  7 – Feb – 2019

Time: 5:30 (In class/Face-to-Face)

Members present: Andrew Choe, Andy Bennet, Haoran Jack Yang, Simran Singh

Objectives: Todays main objective was to come to class prepared with knowledge of creative design thinking and AEV concept sketches

To do/Action Items: Create AEV concept sketches and draw inspiration from these concept sketches for the final design of the AEV

Decisions: The group decided to use direct drive instead of the traditional propellers in the final design. The group also decided to create a new body that is smaller and lighter than the sample AEV.

Reflection: The group came to a general consensus on how the final AEV should be designed. The members of the group agreed that the AEV should be compact and fast.

Date: 7 – Feb – 2019

Time: 6:30 pm (Out of class /Hitchcock/ Face – to – Face)

Members Present: Andrew Choe, Andy Bennett, Haoran Jack Yang, Simran Singh

Objectives: Today’s main objective was to create a part of our AEV for our grant proposal.

To do/Action Items:
• Figure what part we would want to create for our grant.
• Figure out what would be the most usually and most expensive part we would want to grant for.

Decisions:
• The group chose to create a new base. The split up into two pair and each pair decided to make their version of the base.

Reflection:
– Both groups made a base and both were fine. In the end, we chose the smaller of the two. We believe that the smaller base will be more beneficial as it cuts weight from the AEV.

Date: 6-Mar-2019

Time: 5:30 (In-class, Face-to-Face)

Members Present: Andy Bennett, Haoran Jack Yang, Simran Singh

Objectives: Today’s main objective was to test the different tracks in the lecture room

To do/Actions:

  • Decide which tracks to test and proceed with those tests
  • Collect the data from the AEV and analyze the variations among the tracks

Decisions:

  • The group decided which tracks to proceed testing with and chose to not vary the power of the fans or how long they ran so no errors would occur

Reflection:

  • After the data was collected from the tracks, no conclusions can be drawn due to the tracks in the lab room not being tested yet.  After the next round of testing the group will acquire all the necessary data needed to proceed with conclusions

Date: 7-Mar-2019

Time: 5:30 (In-class, Face-to-Face)

Members Present: Andrew Choe, Simran Singh

Objectives: Today’s main objective was to test the different tracks in the lab room

To do/Actions:

  • Decide which tracks to test on and proceed with those tests
  • Collect data from the AEV and analyze the differences among the tracks

Decisions:

  • The first three tracks were used for testing the track variations. Each track was slightly different than the other and greatly impacted the results of the AEV

Reflection:

  • After the data was collected, the group plans on analyzing the all the data collected from all test to draw conclusions

Date: 17-Mar-2019

Time: 5:30(In-Class, Face-to-Face)

Members Present: Andrew Choe, Simran Singh, Andy Bennet

Objectives: Today’s main objective is to prepare for the 1st Performance Test

To do/Actions:

  • Test different lines of code and see which set will output the best result

Decisions:

  • After testing different power levels and duration of motor runs, the group fine tuned the code to its needs

Reflection:

  • The group was happy with the results, but it was soon learned that the performance of the AEV greatly depended on the charge of the battery. If it is not fully charged for the Performance Test, the AEV will not deliver the results the group seeks

Date: 20-Mar-2019

Time: 5:30 (In-Class, Face-to-Face)

Members Present: Andrew Choe, Andy Bennett, Simran Singh, Haoran Jack Yang

Objectives: Today’s main objective is to do well in the 1st Performance Test

To do/Actions: Run a few practice tests before being graded for the Performance Test

Decisions:

  • After the first initial tests, the AEV did not yield the results that the group desired, so the code was altered a few times before the group was happy with the results

Reflection:

  • The group was happy that the AEV passed through the gate without running into the gate or tripping off the danger sensor. The group has decided that the code needs some adjustments to make the AEV more reliable

Date: 27-Mar-2019

Time: 5:30 (In-Class, Face-to-Face)

Members Present: Andrew Choe, Simran Singh, Andy Bennett, Haoran Jack Yang

Objectives: Test the newly designed AEV and complete the second performance test with it

To do/Actions: Run a few practice tests before being graded for the Performance Test

Decisions:

  • After the first initial tests, the group altered the code to meet the demands of the test

Reflection:

  • The group was happy when the new AEV passed through the gate without crashing, and it successfully attached itself to the caboose and safely guided it out of the exit dock

Date: 1-Apr-2019

Time: 5:30 (In-class, Face-to-Face)

Members Present: Simran Signh,, Andy Bennett

Objectives: Complete advanced R&D 2

To do/Actions: Run tests that should show the difference between rear wheel and front wheel drive

Decisions:

  • Run the AEV three times down the track a total of 3 runs for each drive type

Reflection:

  • There was no visual difference between the drive types during the tests, and in the data the drive types produced the same data

Date: 3-Apr-2019

Time: 5:30 (In-class, Face-to-Face)

Members Present: Andrew Choe, Simran Singh, Andy Bennett

Objectives: Complete advanced R&D 3

To do/Actions: Run tests that should show the correlation with energy output and price efficiency

Decisions:

  • Run the AEV at different power outputs with and without the caboose

Reflection:

  • The higher power output over a shorter time is more price efficient, the lower power output over a longer time is less price efficient

Time: 5:30 (Outside-class, Face-to-Face)

Members Present: Andrew Choe, Simran Singh, Andy Bennett

Objectives: Complete Progress Report 3

To do/Actions: Work on the progress report together to easily communicate ideas
