3) Wing Angle

Current AEV Findings:

From the data gathered from the testing done on the wing angle, it was discovered that the upward wing angle was the most effective, though by only a slight margin.  After analyzing the data and comparing the results across each test and each design, it was found that the flat wing design and the upward-angled wing design were the two most efficient, safe, and stable, while the downward design was not as consistent and efficient/fast across the same test.  The flat and upward designs were very similar across the first three criteria measured, with the flat wing actually traveling consistently faster, but it was the final criteria, the total energy used, that helped the group determine that the upward-angled design was superior.  Due to the need for safety and efficiency as the two main goals, the group ultimately decided that the upward-angle design, due to the more consistently low energy usage, provided an advantage over the other two designs.

Research to support Findings:

Results were gathered for four categories from three AEV designs, each running two tests.

For the first data collection, total speed (m/s) was gathered.

This data shows that the flat wing design was the most consistent in its speed, and that the downward-angled design would potentially give varied results in future testing/development.

Gathered second was the average incremental energy (J).

The data remained consistent across all three vehicles in this category.

Gathered third was total distance traveled (m).

This data helped conclude which designs were more efficient in comparison to their energy usage, and how effectively they used that energy.

Finally, the total energy used (J) was gathered.

This, in conjunction with the other three data categories, helped to determine that the upward-angled design was the most superior.  As stated above, energy usage was most important to the group in terms of this tight race between the flat and upward-angled designs.

How does/will this make your AEV more marketable?

This final testing will make our AEV more marketable to customers due to the immense research that has been done up to this point to ensure the most effective and safe vehicle is created.  Across all three tests conducted on different designs of the vehicle, the group has shown that adequate research has been done to create the optimum vehicle for accomplishing the company goals.  This shows potential customers that this vehicle is performing at an optimum level and that it has a safe, dependable, and efficient design.
