The Concept Screening and Scoring Lab allowed the students to become familiar with techniques and criteria that will be used to screen and score the previously designed Advance Energy Vehicles (AEVs). Students used the sample AEV to evaluate the various aspects of the previously designed AEVs from prior lab, including the AEV’s balance, minimal air blockage, AEV’s center of gravity, easiness of maintenance, AEV’s durability in transporting additional load, and overall production cost. The AEV design with the highest screened scores will be developed further. This lab also allowed the students to test the chosen AEV design on the track. The knowledge of screening and scoring AEV designs will allow students to keep track of any necessary changes that needed to be made to the AEV to ensure the maximum success of its run. See executive summary below for more details of the lab.
