Lab 3 – Creative Design Thinking + Rapid Prototyping

Results and Take Aways

The main task this week was for the group to get familiarized with creative design thinking by learning about obstacles to creativity and creative thinking strategies. Once familiarized, the group would create AEV concept sketches individually before conferring as a group about which design elements would work together to create an effective final AEV design. Knowledge of how to think creatively and how to combine different ideas effectively is essential to the AEV project, as our final design should satisfy the project goals while also trying to exceed them by including elements from each group member.

This lab made it clear that team members must partake in good creative thinking activities to create the best ideas for the AEV. Also, the group now has a direction for the AEV prototype after conferring over each member’s individual design.

  • The AEV will coast half the length of the track if it is stopped after 16 feet at 40% power.
  • The AEV will not move at less than 40% power.

Date: 7-Feb-2017

Time: 2:30 p.m.

Members Present: All

Topics Discussed: Individual AEV designs

Objectives: Compare individual AEV designs and create/choose a team AEV design.

To do:

  • Dimension all rough drawings from class.
  • Find the concepts that are most necessary to maintain

Decisions:

  • Al’s design of the Supermarine already encompasses the main goals from each of the other AEV concept designs and is what the team will proceed with as its team design.

Reflection:

  • Al’s design includes the main desires of all the teammates for an AEV.
  • This design will also be easy to change or expand upon as it only has one not given piece, the cockpit, so nothing will need to be fabricated or cut.
