Lab 1: Creative Design

The first AEV lab required students to create individual sketches of an AEV design in order to best meet the requirements given by the “Mission Concept Review” (MCR). According to the MCR, AEVs must be able to deliver cargo on a given rail system while ensuring the most efficient possible energy output. Students designed individual AEV concepts using orthographic drawing techniques and creative design thinking was encouraged so that efficient, unique designs were developed.  Students then shared their concepts with the group in order to determine which design best fit the specified parameters.  The motivation behind this particular lab was to encourage students to use imaginative problem-solving skills and to work together in order to produce the best design possible, an important technique in real-world engineering situations.  See full executive summary attached below for more information.
