As Christopher Columbus became a phenomenon, with making Christopher Colombus becoming a full federal holiday in 1968. But as Columbus mistakenly found America in 1942, he brought over many diseases from Europe and spread them to Native Americans. The National Council of Churches released statements about Columbus stating “For the indigenous people of the Caribbean Island, Christopher Columbus’ invasion marked the beginning of slavery and their eventual genocide”. Stating that Columbus was a murder in a land he accidently came across. Americans and people across the world Celebrate a day where a murder took credit for finding someone else’s land.
