Analysis 1

In the first scene, the boy with a pair of glasses got off the train and took out a little brochure from his pocket. He looks like a nurd, a nurd who may notice unusual staff among usual staff. The brochure had all kinds of patterns of bottle tops on it. While he’s walking through his journey, he saw a “robotic crab” sit on the beach. There is plenty of dust covered on it. It had been lost for several years. He accidently woke up the Lost Thing and played with it. Even though, there were people passing by the Lost Thing everyday and no one noticed it. You could tell they lost the passion from the people’s eyes. Their eyes were hollow and numb. However, the happy time did not last long. The adults came to the beach and expelled them from there.

After they were banished, the boy brought the Lost Thing back home to his little storage room. Because in his parents’ point of view, the Lost Thing was strange and absurd. However, the first place that the boy would like to hide the Lost Thing was home. He thought his family would accept the existence of the Lost Thing. Usually the home was everyone’s shelter. In the film, the parents were like the numb workers on the beach, they could not accept unusual staff.

The Lost Thing could represent the creativity, naive minds and even the affective thinking. While the people were growing up, they gradually lost the natural instincts. Became people were considering how others think about them, so that they became more and more hypocritical.
