My name is Emma Maltais and I am a Health Sciences Major at The Ohio State University. I am in English 1100 because it is a prerequisite for my major and I enjoy learning about new ways to improve social and writing skills. I am from Burlington, Ontario (Canada) and came to The Ohio State University to be a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey Team. Therefore, getting to learn about Christopher Columbus was rather new for me. I did not grow up with an image of him, with anybody teaching me the way I should feel about him or even knew any history about his journey. When doing research I was more of a ‘third party’; undecided about how I felt about him because I simply did not know. After reading articles which you can see in my annotated bibliography, I found a lot of research that I agreed with that labelled Christopher Columbus as a villain. I came to the conclusion that although Columbus was very brave to embark on the journey across the sea, and he is a part of American history, he should not be known as a hero because there are a lot of things he did that should not be praised.
