Creative Design Thinking

The creative design thinking was used to help Team F create a final design for their AEV by using one of many Engineering processes, the one used was brain storming. Each team member was to create a design for the AEV which will then be brought in and shared to the rest of the members of Team F. Each drawings and the reasoning behind them are posted below.

Alex McCann

For his design Alex McCann’s first thought was to make his design aerodynamic. His initial design is heavily based off of modern-day aircrafts. This aspect can be seen in the position of the propulsion of the design as well as the shape of the base. He determined the an even spread of weight along the middle section of the AEV would be best in order to keep maximum balance on the track. Thought he was focused on aerodynamics, he sacrificed many pieces that could have been useful in order to keep the weight of the AEV low.

Brandon Brown

Brandon’s design focused less on size and more on aerodynamics. The propellers are place on the back because they were thought to give more force to the AEV in the back and all the components are placed in the middle to account for balancing.

Collin Whitt

In designing his AEV, Collin focused a lot of weight and size. Using only one piece for the base Collin wanted to use the lightest but also keep the propulsion in the back for maximum power which is why he went with the T base. He also put all the components near the back of the Vehicle to hopefully help the AEV stop.

Daniel Zitello

Like Brandon’s Daniels design is focused less on size and more on aerodynamics. This being the biggest of all the AEV designs, most of the components are place in the middle and just like Brandon’s the propellers are place on the back for maximum power.

Final Design

The final design created by Team F was heavily influenced by team member Alex McCann’s design. Due to the design’s much lower cost, light weight, and location of it’s propulsion, Team F decided to take his design and make a few tweaks to it. One of these tweaks was the location of the battery which is now on the top of the AEV. This design seemed to be the best option for Team F because it takes the best of the four designs and combines it into one.
