The Ohio State University

Solution

To help students feel comfortable, the library should make clear and hierarchical study floors and guidance. The rearranged floors are targeted for attraction by various choices, and for efficiency by clear design. To provide a hierarchical study floors by finding maps of libraries, buying and rearranging the seats and tables, and making new guidance boards. During the rearrangement of library setting, a special table will be designed and set up for voting registration in the library and show it in the smartMap.

Library Rearrangement

1. Rearrange and create hierarchical study areas – Add multiple study areas

Thomspon Library 1st Floor smartMap Example

The smartMap will

i. Add floor navigation

When you click the floor, it will jump to the map of what you want quickly.

ii. Add legends for important components

Then students can easily find their essential needs.

2. Add silent area and transfer area

3. Create new guidance for new rearrangement

Set up a voting center in the library

  • Connect with office of students’ vote (OSU votes) and local government to gain sources and speakers of voting.
  • Design a special table for voter registrations in the library
  • Hand out fliers on how to participate in votes
  • Set up voting workshops

Create an APP for students to self-regulate library usage

An APP will base on smartMap and library sources which can be collected by OSU authority. Thus the APP can show the usage of computers in specific areas. In addition, the APP will encourage students to participate in evaluation and have a model to reflect how crowding the library is.

  • Create smartMap for new rearrangement.
  • Create a model to evaluate the degree of crowding in the library.
  • Encourage students to participate in evaluating by APP.
