How it affects you
The central campus alone is large covering many buildings and square area; thus it can be scary for freshmen coming in to know where to study/do homework. With many freshmen unfamiliar with campus and the library often crowded; there can be a space issue for students when it comes to finding spaces to sit or group study. With the library being maze-like, lots of events/workshops going on and rooms that are reservable; students can have a hard time going through the processes and might waste more time searching than studying.
Many students are now 18 and might be about to participate in their first election, so where to vote can cause anxiety for the students. There is little info on where to vote and how to register to vote if you don’t actively look for it; with so much on their minds students have a hard time being proactive about elections. Another thing is that elections are not a day that you get off school or work; you could pass election day without even knowing. There should be a central point on campus where students can go to learn more about registering, voting or other electoral information on campus.
This project is planning to rearrange the position of tables and chairs and appropriately add some facilities, preventing improper placement of seats that shrinks the user experiences. Library study areas will be divided into two zones, silent zone and non-silent zone, which would make the library environment more cozy and guarantee students’ demands. In order to increase seat utility, this program will create hierarchical floors for various numbers of users by avoiding a full table with a low occupancy rate.
Additionally, this program will launch an APP for students to self-regulate the usage of seats, opportune feedback’s increase library effectiveness. So as to encourage students to take part in voting and cultivate students’ social responsibility, the project includes setting up a vote center in the library and a vote workshop on campus. An inside voting center attracts students and converts the library into a preferred study spot and this may lead to a win-win situation between library and voting participation in the end. The project provides part-time jobs for students on campus as well.
