Visiting the Stasi Museum and Sachsenhausen

Today the group went to The Stasi museum. We learned about how the Stasi kept fear in people living in East Berlin; we also learned about prisoners and how they were treated by the Stasi. For instance, an 18 year old man was arrested for taking a political poster down. The Stasi added radioactive paint to the poster so they could know who took the poster down. The 18 year old was later arrested and the Stasi knew it was him because his hand lit up under a blacklight. The group also went to Sachsenhausen today. It was very moving and eye-opening. When the Holocaust is discussed, conversations are about how awful it was, but pictures can’t the emotional side, you have to be there to actually feel the emotion.
