A research day in Potsdam
On the free day, every group went to different locations in order to do research for individual projects. We travelled to Potsdam to check out the palaces in the Sanssouci Park built by Frederick the Great.
First, we went on a tour of the Sanssouci Palace, and then we viewed the Neue Palace, the Chinese Teahouse, and the Roman Bathhouse.
At each of these, we took pictures of the architecture in order to compare it to other French, German, and Roman architecture.
Even though Frederick the Great of Prussia is German, he knew the French language better than German and preferred the French Rococo style over traditional German architecture. We also noticed that in both Potsdam and Berlin, art has great importance to identity and culture, whether foreign inspired or domestic.
