The Energy Markets and Policy Group is an interdisciplinary research team at The Ohio State University, working in collaboration with scholars at Lehigh University. The team is multidisciplinary, and includes expertise in public policy, engineering, economics, data science, and anthropology.
The team is working on a series of projects to study equity and efficiency in energy markets, with an explicit focus on retail electricity markets. Its work addresses current, relevant and practical public policy and economic issues.
Much of the team’s research focuses on impacts to consumers. Consumers include residential utility customers and households, as well as businesses and job creators. Energy market designs and policy can significantly impact the economic welfare of consumers. Those impacts can also be disproportionately distributed to certain types of customers, and across certain communities. The team’s research not only focuses on evaluating those impacts, but on providing actionable market design and policy changes to address impacts and disparities.
