Information Interview with Dr. Daniel Prevedello
1. Why did you select this individual to interview?
I’m majoring in neuroscience with the hope of becoming a neurosurgeon. This is something that I’ve wanted to do since I was a child. So when I was tasked with this assignment I knew I wanted to interview someone who was everything I aspired to be. with the hope that the conversation we had would help reaffirm my aspirations.
2. Describe the major responsibilities associated with their current role.
Dr.Prevedello is an Associate Professor in the department of neurological surgery as the director of minimally invasive cranial surgery programme. He also mentioned that big factor of his job was patient interaction and meeting with them both pre and post surgery.
3. Discuss how the person prepared for this role, and if they provided you with any advice as what you might be able to do to prepare for a similar career.
Dr. Prevedello grew up in Brazil and went to Universidade Federal do Parana, Curitiba, Parana, Brazil where he completed both his undergrad and residency. After that he went to the University of Virginia in 2006 and received a fellowship Pituitary Surgery, Neuroendocrinology and Epilepsy and then went to the University of Pittsburgh in to 2008 to receive his second fellowship in Skull Base and Cerebrovascular Surgery. His advice to me to was never give up and even when the going gets tough to keep on going.
4. Summarize any insights from the interview that might be helpful in your academic or career preparation.
The best insight he gave me was that this was a very intensive job if you’re just doing this for the money this might not be the job for you then. He also told me about the importance of patient interaction and how you need to develop a rapport with them.
