    • In it’s entirety, this was by far the most useful module in the course. Everything in it held pockets of valuable information that pertain not only to my academic life, but to my overall well being as a student. I found myself so pleased with the various helpful information that I wrote notes (for the first time) as I took in the lecture slides. I believe that the most useful thing I learned from this module was the importance of giving yourself the permission to perform in any way you see fit to achieve success. I’ve learned that it’s okay to use the pomodoro technique, since I’m not good at studying one thing for extended periods of time.
  • What is a specific example of something from this module I have already put into practice? How did it work out?
    • Well the test that I redid from the beginning of the semester showed that I had already put several things into practice! I have began to prioritize tasks and work on them accordingly. I’ve also learned to keep a clear study area and to minimize distractions.

  • What is the most useful thing I learned in this module?

The strategies that I used for note taking included removing all distractions, writing longhand instead of typed notes, and there is a lot of information presented in the classroom, but not everything can be written down.
It’s necessary to write down the important information. Manually writing helps to organize information.
It’s easier to focus when distractions are removed, and to pay attention all throughout class.
Obtaining the structure of the lesson, and observing the cadence of the tone throughout the lecture. I also learned that there are various kinds of notes that can be taken.

Useful Ideas From Module & Putting It Into Practice

Useful Ideas From Module & Putting It Into Practice

The most useful idea from this module was the various kinds of services that websites offer to students. There are sites that offer personalized study plans, engaging and interactive study tools, distraction blockers, and even event calendars that have the ability to help a student’s life smoothly transition. I found these ideas extremely useful because, until I completed the assignment, I had no idea how many sites were offering such great value free of charge to undergraduate students and professionals alike.

Something that I could put into practice from this module is the usage of  the aforementioned student inspired personalized study plans. I found some excellent links: https://www.goconqr.com/en/study-planner/ This site provides students with a detailed bite sized study plan in regards to various upcoming tasks and or assignments. They include but are not limited to lab reports, papers, and general homework plans. Keep Me Out, http://keepmeout.com/en/ another good resource, prohibits the usage of social media during scheduled study hours. lastly, http://memorize.com/ is a hybrid of Quizlet, providing students with multiple ways to memorize and consolidate study terms and definitions. Through frequent usage of these sites, I can put study planning into practice in future classes.

Lesson Module 3

  • What is the most useful thing I learned in this module?
    • The most useful thing I learned in this module was how to stop procrastination. It was good to learn that I am not just off the bat a horrible student for participating in this design frequently. The module made this feat seem easy to do and understandable.
  • What is a specific example of something from this module I have already put into practice? How did it work out?
    • A specific example of something from this module I have already put into practice is attemtping to find the reason of why I procrastinate. This module allowed me to look further below the surface, and find a real plausible answer instead of the shallow and unhelpful reason I’d assume was true. (My lack of good student skills.) I found that a lot of times I procrastinate for studying for a huge test, it’s because I don’t feel comfortable with the information and I feel extremely anxious and overwhelmed. Other times, with this course, I procrastinate because I don’t feel overwhelmed by the work load and am confident that I can navigate it safely even if I put things off until the last minute.
  • What ideas from this module could I put into practice in the future? How?
    • The ideas from this module that I could put into practice in the future is continuing to understand why I might be procrastinating. I can be a detective to that cause, and then upon determining an answer, seek to eliminate that thing that is preventing me from being an effective student, rather than choosing to continue in my unproductive behavior and spin that into self-torment.
  • What advice would I give to students (or working professionals), based on what I’ve read or experienced during this module?
    • My advice to students and working professionals is to work with yourself, not against yourself. Beating yourself up over an approaching deadline is not helpful for your mental state, or the ability to accomplish anything. Instead, I’d encourage other students and working professionals to determine the cause of their procrastination (as described in slide 3 https://osu.instructure.com/courses/58758/pages/lesson-module-3?module_item_id=2828210) and seek to remove what is no longer beneficial. And if necessary, find some supporters that would be willing to keep some degree of accountability to you and your goals. This could mean something as simple as visiting a local starbucks and being in a room of busy productive professionals who you might feel a high level of accountability to by matching their standards.
