Below is the recording of the project presentation:
The following survey was sent to the third grade team and i3 Cohort using Google Forms after the presentation in order to gain summative feedback on the project presentation and hand-off.
As of April 8, 2020 only three of the six team participants have responded, but this may be due to additional workload with the transition to online learning and synchronous teaching requirements. This response document will be updated as additional responses are received.
Project Outcomes
On April 1, 2020 I conducted a Google Meet to present the final product of the i3 Design Lab Google Site and Google Classroom to the Lomond Elementary Third Grade team, the IB Curriculum Coordinator, and the building Technology Specialist. Because I was able to work so closely and collaboratively with this team they were already familiar with the majority of the instructional content and the basic layout and features of the Site and Classroom.
The final project outcomes include a Google Site and Google Classroom for the i3 Design Lab. The instructional focus for both are on teaching Design Thinking within the units of inquiry for “How We Organize Ourselves” and “Sharing the Planet”. Additionally, general pages on the stages of Design Thinking and infographics, templates, and resources for teachers have been linked and provided through the Google Classroom repository. A Google Classroom Tutorial Site was also developed and shared with teachers at all the elementary buildings in the Shaker Schools as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and transition to online learning for all schools.
This project has evolved greatly due to school closures and remote learning changes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to state mandated closures of public schools in Ohio, all teaching and learning has moved online for the foreseeable future. As a result, the Lomond third grade team and I agreed to refocus and revamp the development and design of the i3 Site and Classroom content for the “Sharing the Planet” Unit of Inquiry (UOI).
Implementation and Next Steps
The learning engagements developed and designed for the i3 Design Lab Google Site and Classroom have been rolled out to students as fully-online instruction beginning the week of April 6, 2020. The third grade teachers have developed daily screencasts to help students learn to navigate the Classroom and Site content and layout. This will be done to support the content of this project, but does not fall within the scope of this project design. This project presentation is not a hand-off in the traditional sense, as I will continue to provide informal support to the Lomond i3 Team as they use the Site and Classroom with their students and as we begin to share this framework with teachers in other grade levels in the future.
