G.O.A.L.S.

My G.O.A.L.S. Statement:

G: I plan to achieve global awareness by studying abroad in Spain the summer after my sophomore year or during the fall semester of my junior year. I’m minoring in Spanish, and we recently had a presentation on a unique program that allows students to go to Seville and take Ohio State classes while living there. I would love to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about another culture while simultaneously improving my Spanish and completing my minor. I also am interested in international affairs, and I’m considering joining CCWA to learn more about the topic.

O: I plan to utilize original inquiry by participating in research during my time at Ohio State. As a communication major in undergrad, I am required to participate in research studies of the master’s students. These projects have inspired me to want to conduct similar research and learn more about how humans communicate, especially which factors and biases influence the reception of communication.

A: I plan to achieve academic enrichment by taking full advantage of the honors courses offered. I’m very dedicated to school, and I will continue to maintain a high level of work ethic throughout college. I am majoring in communication with a double minor in Spanish and society and the environment. I hope to use these skills to become an environmental lawyer, and I am currently on the pre-law track. I’m also taking advantage of the opportunities provided by GE courses. I’m taking a public affairs writing class to explore my interest in politics, and I’m taking theatre just for fun, as I was in many plays growing up.

L: I plan to stimulate leadership development by getting involved in extracurricular activities. I plan to rush in the spring, and as I get older, I could take a leadership role in my sorority. I also want to join Buckeyethon and become a general body member, which allows me to help organize the school-wide dance marathon in the spring. In addition, I demonstrate leadership within the classroom. I always make a conscious effort to participate in class discussions, and even lead the direction that they are going in, especially when the rest of the class is hesitant to contribute.

S: I plan to be engaged in service by participating in activities across campus. I am in the process of deciding between two service clubs, Make-A-Wish and A Kid Again, both of which will allow me to become active in the community and provide numerous service opportunities throughout the school year. Furthermore, I plan to go to sporadic service opportunities, such as the sandwich making event going on in Jesse Owens North on October 3, which I have already signed up for.

About Me

Hey everyone! My name is Aurora Ellis and I’m from Marietta, Georgia. I’m in the honors program majoring in communications with a minor in Spanish, but I’m also interested in environmental science. I’d like to study abroad at some point and continue on to grad school after undergrad. This year, I want to get involved in intramural sports, Greek life, and campus ministry. A unique thing about me is that I lived just outside of Washington, D.C. for four years before I moved to Georgia.
