Sketchbook

Project Statement

For this project I used material construction techniques to design a usable sketchbook for myself. My main focus was to make it organized and sturdy which I accomplished by using card stock and colored paper. The title on the front cover, “a look inside,” represents the idea of having a look into my designs. This idea is  carried throughout each colored section, with each one having a star or heart cut out of it. The sections include 4 pages of Bristol and a different type of medium. The layout of the pages paired with my element of surprise creates a functional sketchbook along with one that reflects my personality.

Reflection

This project introduced me to a wide variety of materials and techniques that I had never handled before. I enjoyed taking different materials and constructing them together to design a sketchbook based on my personal preferences. The part I struggled with the most was combining these materials into a single object. My initial plan was to use the laser cutter to cut out holes for binding the pages together. However due to no available times, I had to do it all by hand which caused some frustration. I finished it with the resources I had available and ended up being happy with how it all came together considering the circumstances.
