Mask Up

Project Statement

I collaboratively worked with my partner to create a framework to design and construct a volumetric form based on a pandemic of our choice. The pandemic we made up was called Lacrima Larva which means tear mask in latin. Since the narrative was not your traditional approach, neither were the masking forms we made. We used research from current and future technology to show the connection between our work and narrative. We demonstrated the use of harmony by creating cohesive glasses that connected in the middle. We also demonstrated contrast between our materials as I used very bright and iridescent materials. It all connects back to protecting yourself from the tear gas and tracking system from the government.

Reflection

This project taught me how to create relationships between design forms and meaning. My partner and I took the unique narrative we created and expanded on those ideas to create the volumetric masking forms. Although my initial plan was to use a sewing machine, I discovered how to hand sew using a stitch line pattern for both the hoodie and mask. Considering I had never done that before I was happy with the final outcome, however there are definitely things I would want to fix. The video we created definitely was interesting which is why it goes along with our strange yet unique narrative. It was a fun presentation to put together to physically/visually show our ideas.
