Project Statement

My overall goal for this project was to use stop-motion animation and paper construction elements to emphasize the principle movement. Using the instrumental version of the song, Still Don’t Know My Name, my partner and I chose different 5 second parts that correlated with the idea of disruption. The beginning of my section feels very packed and crammed which is illustrated by pointy red/blue triangles/squares that are absorbed by the growing purple circle. Once the circle absorbs all of the shapes, the beat drops and the composition is paused. Then as the circle grows it releases the now rounded, purple squares and triangles back out giving off a powerful composition. I visually illustrated this narrative by using the principles; scale, repetition, and balance along with contrasting colors.

Reflection

This project taught me how to illustrate the principle movement by using paper mechanisms. It took me longer during the iteration stage to build my concept because I had a hard time creating a relationship between the feeling I got from my song and the abstract shapes. To create this animation, I used a new type of media which made the process a little harder on myself. For a stop motion animation, I discovered how many frames per second a composition should have in order to make it clear and not choppy. The video I created could have been smoother but considering it was my first time, I am happy with how it turned out.
