October 8, 2015
The Democracy Studies program will host a lecture on “Campaign Finance: Balancing Political Inequality with Free Speech,” with Rick Hasen, Chancellor’s Professor of Law and Political Science, University of California, Irvine School of Law, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, in Saxbe Auditorium. Hasen will discuss his upcoming book, Plutocrats United: Campaign Money, the Supreme Court, and the Distortion of American Elections, in which he argues for a new focus and way forward on the issue of campaign financing: if the government is to ensure robust political debate, the Supreme Court should allow limits on money in politics to prevent those with great economic power from distorting the political process.
