Direct Admit, Non-Competitive Program
The Major Readiness Check is an online form that needs to be submitted by the student to be eligible to start taking upper level major coursework, which includes student teaching, methods courses and pedagogy coursework. Students will complete this process once they’ve made sufficient progress.
Once approved, students will follow a lock-step 2 year(Teaching and Learning programs and Physical Education)/ 2.5 year (Special Education, Primary/ Intervention Specialist Dual) plan.
Please work with your advisor to determine the timeline for you to complete the major readiness check.
Major Readiness Check Deadlines:

- Teaching & Learning Programs (Primary, Primary/VI, MCE, STEM, ILA, ISS, TESOL, WLE): January 31st deadline
- Physical Education: January 15th deadline
- Special Education & Primary/Intervention Specialist Dual: October 16th deadline
Readiness Check Benchmarks:

- Minimum Cumulative/ Content(if applicable)GPA: 2.75 GPA
- Non-major coursework progress: A majority of non-major coursework must be complete (please meet with your assigned advisor to discuss your progress)

- Primary, Primary/ VI, MCE, STEM, ILA, ISS, TESOL, WLE, Physical Education: Autumn Semester program start
- Special Education, Primary/Intervention Specialist Dual: Spring Semester program start
If you do not submit the major readiness check by your listed deadline, you could risk delaying your graduation timeline by one year. Please reach out to your advisor ASAP if you miss this deadline.

This is the website used for the Major Readiness Check. Need to submit: degree audit, curriculum plan, and short answer responses. Meet with your assigned advisor well before the deadline to create a curriculum plan and assess if you are ready for the Major Readiness Check.
Students pursuing a Teaching & Learning program will also need to submit a curriculum plan signed by your advisor.
Students planning to begin Special Education or Primary Dual Intervention Specialist in Spring 2025 should complete their Major Readiness Check now! It is due October 16, 2024.
Students planning to begin Teaching & Learning Programs (Primary, Primary/VI, MCE, STEM, ILA, ISS, TESOL, WLE) in Autumn 2025 should complete their Major Readiness Check now! It is due January 31, 2025.
