Welcome to my Honors & Scholars e-Portfolio

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children, and i will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers… and you will know my name is the lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee… Ezekiel 25:17

-Samuel L. Jackson

Year in Review

Over the course of my first semester in college, I have already learned so much of what living a somewhat independent life is like. While the transition into college has been both a dramatic and fun experience, I am eager to continue to push myself into maturing and being the best in the workplace and in my more personal life. I have learned different skills that will help me achieve this goal such as how to manage my time, how to set priorities, and most importantly, how to destress when everything might be overwhelming. I have had such a great first semester, and I am extremely open and welcoming to see what the rest of college, and my life after graduation has in store.

G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: One thing I have always wanted to do but have never been able to fully convince myself to do, is to study abroad. I haven’t made any decisions on where I would prefer to travel or study, but I have always been drawn to a coastal city in Africa. I plan on using offices and departments found on Ohio States campus to pursue this goal next year.
  • Original Inquiry: I plan on looking for many different internship opportunities so that throughout the summer I will be able to have work experience inside an office so that I can become the best job applicant I can be when my senior year arrives.
  • Academic Enrichment: I would like to meet as many companies as possible and create a wide range of networking so that each summer and eventually after graduation, I will have plenty of internships and job offers. I also plan on joining many different business related clubs to expand my knowledge of various fields within the business degree to ensure that I am pursuing both what I am good and and what I enjoy.
  • Leadership Development: I will work full time on top of classes as a student manager for the men’s basketball team for all four years of college. In my senior year I would like to become the head manager to take on a role of leadership and responsibility to do the best job I can do, for the best program in the nation.
  • Service Engagement: I enjoyed volunteering at the Wesley Glenn retirement home and rehab center and plan on doing regular service within that community, but I would also love to do any service involving animals as I am strongly considering joining the 4 paws community.

Career

I have worked many different jobs in my life including a local lawn mowing business, golf caddy, bus boy and miscellanious jobs around the family sporting goods stores. For most of these jobs I only worked for short times in intervals around the seasons. The job I am most proud of, however, would be working as a bus boy at 101 Beer Kitchen in Dublin, Ohio. I worked for 3 1/2 years throughout the entire year. It was here where I made many different connections with different personalities that in other cases I might’ve tried to avoid. I truly found a second home at the restaurant and can give that job no complaints as some of my best memories came from working.

Artifacts

A visual representation of my personal and professional goals would be a frisbee. I first learned to throw a frisbee during my freshman year when I joined my high school’s ultimate frisbee team. It was playing frisbee that taught me a strong work ethic of always striving to be the best and never settling for anything less. Through hard work and dedication I became the best frisbee I could be, helped the team set multiple records for both the school and in the city division, such as “three-peating” as city champions and having the first undefeated season in division history. Nothing compared though to the feeling of being the first team in school history to play in the state championship, and even though we lost 12-4, it was truly an unforgettable experience that I will carry with me for the rest of my life and use to push myself to the best I can be.
