Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience with progressively increasing responsibility for management and support of management information systems and information technology as well as information technology staff
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management, Information Systems or a closely allied field.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in MIS, CS, or Business Administration, or a closely allied field. Direct management of one or more major IT operations is required.

Experience must include vendor qualification ad selection with business case analysis as well as technical merit considerations.

Graduate Research Assistant Position

The interdisciplinary reverse-mortgage research team at OSU is seeking a graduate research assistant to work on a research project that studies the relationships of food insecurity among older adults, housing costs, and home equity borrowing. The GRA’s task includes data assembly and directed statistical analysis using the Health and Retirement Study and the Panel Study of Income Dynamics.

The start date is August 22, 2017. The position is for 9-12 months, 20 hours per week, and includes monthly stipend and tuition.

Requirements for this position are:

  1. Experience analyzing panel data sets; experience using the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) and the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) is preferred.
  2. Experience using STATA statistical software to analyze longitudinal data sets.

The team consists of Cazilia Loibl (Human Sciences), Don Haurin (Economics), Stephanie Moulton (Public Affairs), Julia Brown (Medicine), Wendy Xu (Public Health) and Michelle Kaiser (Social Work). The core team of Loibl, Haurin and Moulton has conducted funded research on the causes and consequences of home equity borrowing since 2012, with a focus on reverse mortgage borrowing. Results of this research are published in the Journal of Urban Economics, the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, and Cityscape. Our current working papers were presented at the University of Michigan Retirement Center and the Federal Reserve Board. RA Position- Center for the Study of Student Life

The Center for the Study of Student Life anticipates hiring a Graduate Student Researcher (GSR) for the 2017-2018 academic year. The GRA will report to a Research Associate. Examples of major projects for the 2017-2018 academic year include but are not limited to either implementing or analyzing data from the following studies:

  • College Prescription Drug Study– The CPDS is a multi-institutional study of prescription drug misuse among college students at up 25 institutions across the country. Tasks include recruiting institutions to participate, troubleshooting survey administrative issues with institutions via phone and email, preparing samples, completing IRB application, administering survey, cleaning and coding data, analyzing data and preparing reports.
  • Student Life Survey– Survey of Ohio State undergraduate and graduate students on involvement in co-curricular activities, experiences at Ohio State and other topics determined by relevant annual trends.
  • Wellness Assessment– Survey of Ohio State undergraduate and graduate students on the interrelationship between the nine dimensions of wellness (http://swc.osu.edu/about-us/9-dimensions-of-wellness/.

The GSR will perform the following duties:

  • Coordinate and perform quantitative analysis, reporting and distribution of new and existing research projects
  • Prepare report and presentations
  • Write and implement surveys
  • Prepare Institutional Review Board applications and amendments
  • Develop manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Participate in staff meetings and retreats
  • Complete ad hoc requests as assigned

Qualifications
Required:

  • Enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in education, the social sciences, public health or a related field
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, including multivariate regression, and social science research methods
  • Experience using SPSS and/or STATA
  • Management, including cleaning and coding of large datasets
  • Strong writing skills

Desired:

  • Experience writing surveys and with survey software, such as Qualtrics
  • Experience writing protocols for the Institutional Review Board
  • Demonstrated experience publishing and/or presenting  research
  • Knowledge of higher education and/or student development theories

Temporary Contract Positions Available- Randi Korn & Associates, Inc

Randi Korn & Associates, Inc (RK&A), a museum consulting firm is looking to hire graduate students to observe field trip programs to the Columbus Museum of Art and interview students as part of a research study. The types of data that need collecting are:

  • Observing field trips to the Columbus Museum of Art and in-classroom art programs within the Columbus City School District. The pay is $95 per observation session.
  • Conducting interviews with students in the classroom within the Columbus City School District. The pay is $22 per hour.

Training will be provided Wednesday and Thursday, January 25th and 26th.

AFAS Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Department of African American Studies (AFAS) at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications from recent Ph.D. graduates in the humanities and social sciences for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship, with the option to apply for a second-year renewal. The fellowship is intended to assist junior scholars whose research focuses on topics related to Africa, African Americans, and/or the African Diaspora in furthering their careers by providing them with opportunities for mentorship, advancing their research, and enhancing their teaching.

AFAS postdoctoral fellows are provided a competitive salary, support for research and research-related travel, office space, and computer equipment. They are expected to teach one course per semester based on their scholarly area of expertise and with the approval of AFAS curriculum committee or the Chair. In addition, fellows will participate in the intellectual life of the unit and the university by giving and attending public lectures, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and participating in departmental activities. The fellowship begins in the fall semester of the 2017-2018 academic year.

Applications are evaluated against a broad set of criteria, with special consideration given to contributions the candidate can make to diversify the University community and to deepen the scholarly inquiries of the department of African and African-American Studies and its curriculum. Applications should include: (1) a letter of interest that briefly explains the applicant’s scholarly interest, with a detailed statement of proposed research that will be pursued during the fellowship period (up to 5 pages), (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) one writing sample (a scholarly publication or dissertation chapter (maximum 30 pages), (4) three letters of recommendation, including one from the dissertation advisor.
