When we talked about Andean culture in class, we discussed the uses of llamas. Llamas were and still are a major component of Andean life. Llamas have been herded and utilized in Andean society for centuries. Llamas have a variety of uses. Llamas are used for their meat, their dung, as sacrifices, and their ability to climb the highlands with cargo. In the past, llama sacrifices were more common and more widely accepted than today. For the most part, the uses of llamas are quite similar today as they were in the past. Without llamas, Andean society wouldn’t be what it is today and the Inca Empire probably wouldn’t have been as successful, prior to the arrival of the Spanish.
