Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness:
    • There are a plethora of ways through which a student may gain a global perspective, with the most typical being a study abroad program. I hope to study abroad and specifically learn more about varying global healthcare systems. In particular, the Public Health Perspectives study abroad programs in Finland and Estonia or Japan are particularly compelling as a premed student – both to explore and be immersed in a new culture as well as to gain insight into different healthcare systems and attitudes toward health.
  • Original Inquiry:
    • Scientific advancement is built upon original inquiry, specifically in a laboratory setting. Throughout my collegiate career, I hope to participate in intellectually stimulating research projects specifically in the fields of psychology and neuroscience and their intersection. I intend to start as a lab assistant, with the goal being one day starting and conducting my own original research project in the field.
  • Academic Enrichment:
    •  I intend to pursue academic excellence through a wide variety of challenging and intellectually stimulating coursework. I want to delve deep into Neuroscience, my major, as well as minor and general education coursework that meets my requirements while providing a more well-rounded look into other specific areas of interest; business and bioethics. In addition, I seek to support my coursework engaging in extracurriculars that will reinforce and deepen my understanding of the material learned in my classes. For example, shadowing a neurologist that specializes in a particular area of the brain can reinforce and provide a real-world context to material covered in lecture.
  • Leadership Development:
    • As an aspiring doctor, leadership experience is crucial to my education. It will strengthen my communication skills which will be beneficial in my future career. But being a leader is more than having a specific role in an organization, rather, it is working alongside others to improve oneself and their peers. I intend to further develop my leadership skills by applying them in my classes as well as my co-curricular activities. I will be an active and engaged member and always look for ways to improve myself and learn from others.
  • Service Engagement:
    • Service forms the core of the medical profession – only by understanding the needs of the community and individuals around us can we properly serve. Throughout high school, service became a central part of my identity; in coming to college, I hoped to find a service group whose message resonated with me. One organization in particular has struck a chord with me. Remote Area Medical (R.A.M.) seeks to create a series of free medical clinics in which local residents can receive what is often life-altering medical care that they otherwise would not have access to. The stories are heart-wrenching, and only make me even more passionate about getting involved and making a difference.

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. About Me

Hi! My name is Sanjana Duvvuri, from Aurora, OH – a suburb of Cleveland. I am a Neuroscience major on the pre-med track, and in the future I would love to become a pediatric neurologist. I’m planning on minoring in either Global Public Health, Business, or Bioethics. In my free time, I love to watch soccer and read. One goal of mine for this semester is to join a few campus organizations that I am passionate about, and make an impact on the community around me.
