Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: Delete these instructions and add your own post.]

UN Millenium

Through this project I gained a great amount of global awareness and had the opportunity to analyze a specific societal problem through the framework of multiculturalism and globalization, in relation to the UN Millennium Goal of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger.

Upon reflection, this project has encouraged me to challenge myself to experience and participate in activities that are unfamiliar and to become accustomed with breaking down stereotypes in everyday practice, both globally and locally.

In addition, this project granted me with the invaluable opportunity to engage in critical and analytical scholarly discourse with my peers.

About Me

I am Amber Dunkle, currently a first year student at The Ohio State University.  I grew up in Pataskala, Ohio, a considerably small rural town from which I now commute to campus from for classes.

In high school I was a classic overachiever, taking on a heavy course load every year, heading up National Honors Society, Student Council, Newspaper, etc.  Eventually I graduated valedictorian and set my sights on OSU.  The adjustment has been slightly challenging; to realize that now I am in classes where pretty much all my classmates were valedictorians at their high school.  In contrast, I love the academic rigor in ways I cannot truly explain, only that the love I have for learning is growing everyday here.

I am currently studying to major in Biology (BS) while on the pre-health professional track in hopes of attending medical school.  I would like practice medicine as a pediatrician some day, and take my practice and career overseas to aid those in third-world countries by offering my services in a non-profit setting, specifically in hopes of preventing and treating easily preventable diseases, and with a focus on child/family medicine.

I have a heart for literature, thus a love for reading and writing in my free time.  In addition, I am a huge sports fan, specifically a passionate soccer fan.  I played and was captain of my high school varsity girls soccer team for three years, and loved every minute of it.  I am also a football fanatic, I love attending all OSU home games and watching college and NFL games ritualistically on Saturdays and Sundays.  I also love art and nature, flowers in particular, for the message they convey.  Additionally, as displayed by my career aspirations, I desire and enjoy travel.  This past summer I had the chance to journey to Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the surrounding area on a mission trip in which my team built a house and volunteered at a medical clinic over the span of sixteen days.  It was one of the most incredible experiences I have had thus far and really solidified my passion and vision for what I want to do with my life.
